Music with a Latin flavor, performed by Lydia Forbes on violin and Timothy Burris on guitar, with works of Astor Piazzolla for violin and guitar, including excerpts of his Histoire du Tango.
Also on the program are “Alla cubana” for solo guitar from William Walton’s “Bagatelles” and an arrangement for violin and guitar by Ms. Forbes and Mr. Burris of Manuel de Falla’s “Homenaje,” originally a tango for solo guitar dedicated to Claude Debussy.
Lydia Forbes is best know regionally as a member of the DaPonte String Quartet, but has concertized extensively throughout Europe and the U.K, performing with ensembles ranging from the Zephyr Kwartet, Het Schoenberg Ensemble, and Sinfonietta Amsterdam, to I Fiamminghi, among others. She has recorded with some of the world’s most prominent labels, including Sony Classical and Harmonia Mundi. She has also performed for festivals in Europe, the U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and the U.S.
Timothy Burris has performed throughout Europe and the US, both as a soloist and an accompanist. He has appeared in concert with such esteemed artists as the mezzo Jennifer Lane and the keyboardist Robert Hill, as well as under the baton of the late Peter Schreier and René Clemencic, among others. Mr Burris specializes in music of the Baroque (on lute and theorbo) and 19th- and 20th-century repertoire for the Spanish guitar (which he plays on a copy of an 1864 instrument by Antonio Torres).
