Boy and Girl Singers of Maine - Portland Conservatory of Music

Singing in a choir requires group and individual effort and encourages musical, academic, social, and emotional growth.

The combined choirs perform in two special concerts, held at the Woodfords Church Sanctuary, 202 Woodford St., Portland ME.

Dec. 14, 3:00 pm | Winter Choral Concert | In Endless Song

The 2nd Annual Holiday Concert includes a variety of pieces written and arranged for youth in celebration of the holiday season.

May 17, 3:00 pm | Spring Choral Concert

The Trebles is a group singing activity for children in Kindergarten and First Grade. Choral Director Maria Belva will lead the singing. She will teach seasonal songs, folk songs (both American and foreign), and songs written specifically for children, all age-appropriate. The songs will primarily be taught in a circle with accompanying movement. A recital will take place at the end for family and friends.

Monday 5 pm-5:30 pm | February 3 – May 4, 2020
Tuition: $150

As in all the other choral groups, children need to schedule an audition with Maria, so she can meet each child and their parent. There is no need for any vocal experience; this meeting is mainly to determine the child’s interest and maturity level.

Contact Maria Belva for more information.

GSOM offers choral training to three age groups, each with a distinct musical experience: The Skylarks, Bella Canta and Iris Ensemble.

The choral repertoire is varied, engaging, and wide-ranging, from the Renaissance to the 21st centuries. Performances include a Winter Concert in December and a Spring Concert in May at Woodfords Church. The Iris Ensemble have several other performance opportunities during the year, and is traveling to Italy in April, 2020.

The choirs will occasionally overlap in a rehearsal, so they can join voices in a single piece for the concert program. They will also have performance opportunities with the Boy Singers of Maine.
