Margaret Hopkins, Violin
Margaret Bruziak Hopkins was born in Poland and began violin studies at age 7, adding piano at age 12. As a teen she was a member of the Greater Boston Youth Symphony Orchestra for five years and a fiddler with the Polish Dancers of Boston.
She received a B.M. in Performance from University of Mass. at Lowell where she also pursued Music Education. She received extensive Suzuki training at Ithaca College in New York, Hartt College at the University of Connecticut, New York State University in Buffalo and Capital University in Ohio.
Margaret has performed in her native Poland as well as in Switzerland, Israel, England, Scotland, Wales, Canada and the United States. She is the past president of the Maine Suzuki Association and past secretary of the Maine American String Teachers Association (MeASTA). She served on the board of the Maine Music Educators Association as Orchestra Vice President.
Margaret teaches violin at CK Burns School in Saco, general music at Old Orchard Beach, and violin at Portland Conservatory of Music. She performs with the Lakes Region Symphony Orchestra where she is the concertmaster, the Maine Pro Musica, Opera Maine, Southern Maine Symphony Orchestra, the New Hampshire Music Festival, Deep Blue C Studio Orchestra and freelances in the New England area.
