Danielle Moreau, Percussion
Dr. Danielle Moreau is a percussion performer, music educator, and entrepreneur based in New England. She currently serves as adjunct faculty at the University of New Hampshire, percussion faculty at the Portland Conservatory of Music, and percussion specialist of the Westbrook School Department in Maine.
While completing her doctoral work, she served as a Graduate Teaching Assistant in Ethnomusicology and Percussion at Arizona State University where she was the Director of the African Drum Ensemble and Percussion Jazz Ensemble.
Danielle is the co-founder of the Moreau | VanTuinen Duo and an active presenter, clinician, and performing artist throughout the United States.
In addition to her current appointments, Danielle is the Director of Percussion at the Summer Youth Music School (SYMS), held on the University of New Hampshire campus in Durham, NH. Designed for middle and high school students, she teaches masterclasses and lessons, coaches the percussion ensembles, and directs the steel bands and African Drum ensembles.
Her extensive arranging experience has resulted in a variety of pieces for percussion jazz ensembles, marching bands, and chamber settings. As both a member and coordinator, her passion for new music has resulted in several commissioned works for both solo percussion literature and percussion/euphonium repertoire.
Danielleu has performed with several ensembles throughout Arizona and the New England areas, including the Phoenix Symphony, the Phoenix Theatre, Salt River Brass, the Portland Symphony Orchestra, and the New England Brass Band. As a co-founder of the Moreau | VanTuinen Duo, Danielle has been invited to perform at Northern Arizona University, the University of Vermont, the Southwest Regional Tuba Euphonium Conference, and the International Women’s Brass Conference as a guest artist and educational outreach presenter.
She earned a Doctor of Musical Arts degree in Music Performance from Arizona State University. Her culminating doctoral project, “Establishing a Percussion Jazz Ensemble at the Collegiate Level”, aims to provide educators with historical context, curricula, resource materials, and arrangements necessary for building and maintaining this unique group.
She holds a Master of Music degree in Music Performance from Arizona State University and a Bachelors of Music degree in Music Education from the University of New Hampshire (summa cum laude). Her principal teachers and mentors include Dr. JB Smith, Dr. Mark Sunkett, Simone Mancuso, Dom Moio, Shaun Tilburg, Dr. Deanna Swoboda, and Dr. Andrew Boysen, Jr.
Danielle is a member of the Percussive Arts Society, the PAS Diversity Committee, and the National Association for Music Education and is an endorser of Black Swamp Percussion.
